Chairman's Welcome Message
On behalf of the SACAC Board, I’d like to welcome back all our returning members and families. For those of you that haven’t previously been involved with SACAC, I’d like to provide you with some information on SACAC which hopefully will be an important part of your Singapore experience.
SACAC was founded over 25 years ago by a group of concerned parents in Singapore with the following objective stated in the SACAC constitution:
“Its objective is to combat drug usage and problems associated therewith in Singapore, particularly within the American community, through rendering counseling services, sponsorship of sports and leisure activities, organization of mental health programs, liaison with local law enforcement agencies, and implementation of other projects which may lessen the incidents of substance abuse.”
Over 25 years later, SACAC has grown significantly and still strives to meet the above objective.
SACAC provides a number of important services to the community. The activities are broadly divided between sports and counseling and community programs. In the area of counseling and community programs amongst other services, SACAC provides counseling, workshops, educational testing, adoption studies, and support groups. In sports, SACAC provides a wide range of programs for kids from pre-k through high school. Each of these sports programs is designed to provide an experience to all interested kids where they will learn among other things about sportsmanship, teamwork, maximizing potential and having fun. All of the SACAC programs are run in the spirit of living up to SACAC’s stated objective. Additionally, most of the programs are run by volunteers.
The SACAC Board believes that in order for kids to get the most from our programs a healthy lifestyle is critical. The Board would urge all the families that are involved in SACAC Sports to use SACAC Sports as an opportunity to talk to your family about healthy lifestyles and the importance of a healthy lifestyle in excelling in life and the things that you do. The Board would also encourage you to get involved with the programs by volunteering your time to coach, referee or just help with an event. Without the support of parent volunteers, we cannot run our programs.
In conclusion, SACAC is proud to provide to the community sport programs to tap kids’ potential and community programs and services to enhance mental health. The SACAC Board hopes all the families and members will realize the importance of SACAC’s objective, which underpins the organization. Additionally, if you have ideas as to how we can further the objective, please don’t hesitate to pass on your ideas.
Sincerely yours,
Philip DeFord
